「誰にでもできる作業のような繰り返しの工程の中にも行う人ごとの歩み方がある。
手順であったり、速度であったり、動作と動作の時間的な関係であったり、要因はさまざまだ。
細かな差異を見ないことにすることもできるかもしれない。
ただ自分の関心はその微妙な異なり方を微妙なまま味わえる状態にすることにあるように思う。」

そこにある何か。画家、末永史尚のつくる立体は、彫刻のようでいて、それではなく、日用品のようでいて、それではありません。美術史にでてくる有名な作品を連想させたりもしますが、そのままではありません。それが何か見極めようとすると、一定の速度ですり抜けていきます。ニュートラルな質感を持ち、クリアーで絶妙に単純化された形を持つ“それ”は、思考が堂々巡りするための装置のようです。空間（現実でもWeb上でも）に応じて作られるパズルのような小さな断片、単位が集まった作品においても、何らかのルールはありますが、その最終的な姿や輪郭は決まっていないともいえるでしょう。
結局、平面であり立体でもあるそのものは、永遠に名付けられることは無いように思えます。ですが、そのものを構成する平らな表面には、絵具が塗られており、絵筆のタッチがわずかながらですが必ず残されているのです。それは「Objectもの」であると同時に、やはり絵画なのです。
末永は美術史を研究し、彼が生きている現在の世界、周囲の日常や空間を日々見つめ、手を使って描くことで思考と制作のトライを積み重ねて来ました。この絶え間ない継続の中で生み出された作品群は、作家の思考の過程と深化を感じさせ、軽やかでありながら稀な存在感をもって私達の前に現れるのです。

"Generic Object"
Every artist has his/her own way of doing things, even if it involves repetitive processes that anyone can do.
There are various factors involved in performing a certain process, such as procedure, speed, and the temporal relation between one action and the next.
An artist can also decide to not look at minute differences that occur in the production process.
But my interest lies in creating a state in which the viewer can perceive the subtle differences that occur just as they are.
Fuminao Suenaga
The work of painter Fuminao Suenaga can be referred to as “something that is simply there.” That is to say, the three-dimensional forms he creates resemble sculptures, but that is not exactly it. They also look like everyday items, but that’s not it either. His works tend to remind viewers of masterworks that often appear in art history, but they are not the same as the originals. As the viewer tries to determine what they are, specific descriptions continue to slip away from his/her mind. Suenaga’s works, which possess a neutral texture as well as distinct and exquisitely simplified forms, are all like devices created to cause the viewer’s mind to go round in circles. In addition, in one series, the space of a work (that is painted or else arranged with images he referenced from the Web) is composed of small fragments/units similar to puzzle pieces. That series does follow some kind of a rule, but the final appearance and outline are left in an indeterminate state.
Therefore, his works that contain both two and three-dimensional elements are difficult to refer to as belonging to any specific medium. Nonetheless, the paint is applied to the works, possessing flat surfaces with certain thicknesses, in such a way that it reveals faint traces of brushstrokes. Thus, his works are “objects,” but they are indeed also paintings.
Suenaga has studied art history, and he has also continued to gaze upon the present world, daily life and the spaces around him. Based on these perspectives, he has persistently continued to think about and produce his works through the use of his hands. The group of works created as the outcome of his ceaseless creative activity allows us to perceive the artist’s thinking process and the depth of his thought, while also manifesting a rare sense of existence as well as lightness before our eyes. We hope that many people will take this opportunity to enjoy the creative world of Fuminao Suenaga.
