International Performance Art Festival and Meeting
Responding: International Performance Art Festival and Meeting is a brand-new international festival to take place in Japan this September. As in the title, it is to respond to current social and environmental issues surrounding us using our body (performance art) as our instruments, followed by a symposium and an experimental platform to create dialogue among communities within both local and global contexts. The inaugural project: R1 will take place in Tokyo and travel to Fukushima prefecture’s coastal areas where affected by 2011 the Great East Japan Earthquake, and respond to the aftermath infamous situation there is a forgotten present tense living history. Its second: R2 will take place in Manila, Philippines, as a Filipino/Japanese joint project by performance artists and scholars from both nations. Involving academics in their specific study fields, we will research and revisit Manila’s targeted neighborhoods and excavate some present and historical aspects of Filipino/Japanese relation within the cityscape and create an out-of-theater performance event "on the street." We plan to hold R3 in Singapore at the National Institute of Education Art Gallery in 2020 and possible other locations in collaboration with a long-lasting art collective the Artist Village and create a strong Tokyo- Singapore relationship among artists and scholars from performance art and academic world and deepen Trans-Asia networks. We have just formed an executive committee in Japan and have started communicating with the project’s Filipino and Singaporean counterparts. The specific target research material is to be determined throughout in 2018.
【Responding: International Performance Art Festival and Meeting】は、日本発の、新しい形式の国際パフォーマンスアート芸術祭です。タイトルからも読み取れるように、私たちを取り巻く現在の社会や環境の課題に身体表現を用いてレスポンド（あるいは介入）し、シンポジウムの同時開催により学術的な文脈との相互性も持ちつつ、複数年継続開催させることで国際ネットワーク形成のプラットフォームを構築します。パフォーマンスアートは、近年世界的な盛り上がりを見せている領域ですが、日本国内では多くの才能を輩出してきた歴史がありながらも、海外のそれと比べると詳細な理解は得られていません。数多く見られるインディペンデントな活動の後押しともなるべく、本フェスティバルはパフォーマンスアートの社会普及に寄与する新たなプラットフォームとなることも目的としています。 東京都-福島県にて本年開催される第一回目の【R1】は、東日本大震災の影響を受けた福島県沿岸地域の現状に着目し、原発問題に一元化することなく、それ以前の忘れられた郷土生活史や復興の現状にも光を当てる試みです。来年以降に予定されている第二回目の【R2】では、フィリピン、マニラ市にてパフォーマンスアーティストと歴史専門分野の研究者による日本-フィリピン共同プロジェクトとして、マニラの対象地域での調査、或いは再調査を起点とし、フィリピンと日本関係の歴史的側面を「都市」の文脈から掘り起こしつつ、さらには、劇場から「ストリート」へ飛び出すパフォーマンス・イベントを企画しています。シンガポールでの第三回目の【R３】では、「アーティストビレッジ」との共同キュレーションにより、2020年にシンガポールで国立教育大学付属美術館を主会場に開催予定です。今後の現地での具体的な研究内容は、2018年中におおよその形をまとめたいと考えています。

MARI FUKUTOME
福留麻里
Mari Fukutome is a dancer and choreographer. Fukutome formed the dance duo group “Ho Ho- Do” with Mika Arashiki in 2001 and began a solo career as a dancer and choreographer in 2014. Fukutome primarily produces site-specific dance projects in various venues using a variety of styles and improvisation. Fukutome’s work takes a variety of forms from collaborative and solo pieces, to workshops. Through her work she is seeking both experimental and original relations between dance, people and other things in the world.
ダンサー・振付家。2001年より新鋪美佳と共にダンスデュオほうほう堂として活動。’14年よりソロ活動開始。劇場やギャラリーでの作品発表をはじめ、道、川原、公園、誰かの家、誰かや何かとのコラボレーションなど、様々な場や状況、人と共に踊る。
